Eli joined Hanna Langholz Wilson Ellis in February 2021 as a Senior Advisor. He has over 35 years of broad business experience in operations, planning and construction, civic engagement, contract negotiations, real estate, and development.
Professional Experience
A native of the Pittsburgh area, Eli began his career as an accountant with Deloitte and most recently worked at the University of Pittsburgh for over 30 years. He served the University in several capacities including Vice Chancellor for Business and Real Estate. Mr. Shorak was responsible for the strategic planning and operational oversight of business and auxiliary operations and led for years the community and city engagement process required to obtain all necessary approvals for the Institutional Master Plans required by Pittsburgh Zoning Code.
Eli was responsible for on campus real estate initiatives as well as strategic off-campus land acquisitions during his last 20 years. He participated as a key member of the professional team that developed the Campus Master Plan in 2019. In addition, he participated in the creation of the Innovation District in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood, developed and implemented the acquisition strategy that led to a 14 acre urban campus expansion, and led the negotiations for the $250 million redevelopment of 5051 Centre Avenue in Shadyside. This development included the re-purposing of a historic 246,000 SF building that will consist of office and laboratory space when complete and is a collaboration between the University, Wexford Science + Technology, and UPMC.
Education
Mr. Shorak earned his MBA from the University of Pittsburgh and his BS in accounting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He is licensed as a certified public accountant (inactive)
